From its birth in the brothels of 1880 Buenos Aires to its 21st century life on the world’s foremost stages, the Tango is a worldwide phenomenon! The Sony Centre For The Performing Arts is proud to present this iconic art form in Toronto with TANGO LEGENDS live on stage for one night only on Friday, April 11, 2026 at 8pm.
Founded in 2012 by Maria Maldonado and Pablo Sosa, two of Buenos Aires’ most respected and renowned dancers and choreographers, TANGO LEGENDS features 12 award-winning dancers, accompanied by the esteemed Emiliano & Lautaro Greco Quintet (with requisite seductive vocals), who reveal the legendary glamour and rhythmic sounds that encompass the art and soul of Tango. Tango has conquered the world with its vertical expression of a horizontal desire! In 1992 Al Pacino danced the Tango for his Academy award-winning role in Scent of a Woman; in 1997, Grammy-Award winning Cellist Yo-Yo Ma released a full-length album dedicated to Tango music; and in 2009 Tango officially rose from local phenomenon to global fixture when UNESCO declared Tango as an “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity”.
TANGO LEGENDS creators and artistic directors, Maldonado and Sosa, who were honoured by the government of Capital Province of Buenos Aires with a “Declaration of Cultural Interest”, strive to continue to celebrate and showcase the passion of the men and women who first danced the Tango through this spectacular new production.
After the performance there will be a Milonga at the main lobby of the venue, to be hosted by our friends at Rhythm & Motion Dance Studio. This is a complimentary event open to all attendees of Tango Legends.
